Understanding and Responding Foreign Malign Influence
Significant knowledge is available by now about how Russia is attempting to sway European and American political processes, but influence of Russia and other superpowers (e.g. Turkey, Iran, China) on the Western Balkans is less well-known and less brought into the focus of international attention.
The aim of the project is to understand better, raise awareness of, and respond to foreign autocrate influence in East-Central Europe.
This project sets out to create a widely recognized tool for detailed measuring of hostile influence by actors of malign influence such as Russian Federation, Chinese People’s Republic and other authoritarian regimes. In particular, the project aims at understanding the nature and quantifying the degree of authoritarian influence in the Western Balkan region, starting with three countries: Northern-Macedonia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
