Two day seminar for members and staff of the legislative bodies in BiH
Foreign Policy Initiative BH (FPI BH) has organized a two day seminar for members and staff of legislative bodies in BiH which was held on 18th and 19th of November 2013 at the RS National Assembly in Banja Luka.
The Seminar was held within the scope of activities of the project: “Engaging Parliamentary Committees for the EU” which is implemented with the support of the British Embassy in BiH. The goal of the project is to provide the European Integration Committees in the parliaments in BiH with adequate technical and expert support on and to offer them information on structures, mechanisms and skills for EU integration process planning and coordination. This in turn could be used as a platform for policy creation in areas which are key for the EU reforms.
During the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to discuss Chapters 23 (Judiciary and fundamental rights) and 24 (Justice, freedom and security) of the EU Acquis, as well as to hear lectures of eminent experts from BiH and the region.
The seminar was opened by H.E. Mr. Nigel Casey, the UK Ambassador in BiH. This time, the lecturers were Mr. Kristijan Turkalj, member of the negotiating team for negotiations of Croatia's accession to the EU, and chief negotiator for Chapters 23 – Judiciary and fundamental rights and 24 – Justice, freedom and security; Mrs. Sanja Mrvaljević Nišavić, Head of Section for Political Criteria and Justice, freedom and security in the Serbian European Integration Office, Mr. Daniel Mondekar, President of the European Affairs Committee of the Croatian Parliament, as well as members of European integration Committees of the state and entity parliaments in BiH – Mrs. Mira Grgić (federal parliament), Mr. Srđan Mazalica (RS National Assembly) and Mr. Mehmed Bradarić (BiH Parliamentary Assembly).
